HomeSwapper - The mutual exchange solution for tenants and landlords

 What is HomeSwapper?

If you are a council or housing association tenant you can swap homes with another tenant. This is called a "mutual exchange". HomeSwapper is a mutual exchange service. You can use this service to help you find a new home. HomeSwapper has the UK's biggest list of members all wanting to swap homes.

In the past year HomeSwapper has helped over 18,000 tenants move home. Thousands of tenants join every month. Any tenant from any social landlord can register and the service is free for BCHA tenants. You can swap with tenants of any registered social landlord, not just BCHA tenants. HomeSwapper covers all of the UK, so you can find swaps locally or nationally. A swap may be a quicker way of moving than waiting for a transfer.

Here are some of the comments from our tenants that have used HomeSwapper to find a new home

What are the rules about exchanging (swapping homes)?

You are able to exchange with the tenant of a Council or Housing Association anywhere in the UK. If you find someone who wants to swap homes with you, you must get permission before you move. You need to contact us as soon as possible for advice and information and you will need to complete an application form.

We would only defer or refuse your exchange if you or the person you want to exchange with:

Ø has rent arrears
Ø is in breach of the tenancy agreement
Ø would be moving to a home that is not suitable, for example, if the home is too large or small.

Once we have received your application form we will guide you through the mutual exchange process. We have 42 days from the date we receive your completed application form to complete your exchange
